Federal regulators and experts continue to update carriers and drivers on requisite steps moving forward prior to the mandate for electronic logging devices.

At the Connected Fleets USA conference in Atlanta next week, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Field Administrator Jon Dierberger is scheduled to host a workshop on ELDs with a focus on the “internet of trucks.”

The Sept. 26 session will aim to highlight technology trends in the commercial transportation sector with the potential of shaping the industry’s landscape in the coming years. Also, “Uberization” will be discussed, emphasizing opportunities for revenue-sharing and partnerships.

The workshop will be followed by a panel discussion featuring Tom Cuthbertson, vice president of regulatory compliance at Omnitracs, Kelly Frey, vice president of product marketing at Verizon Telematics Inc., Fred Fakkema, vice president of compliance at Zonar Systems, and William Hsieh, sales director ATrack Technology.

The Connected Fleets USA conference will be held at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Atlanta Downtown.

A federal rule requires carriers to equip their commercial vehicles with ELDs beginning Dec. 18. While in Atlanta, FMCSA also plans to address concerns drivers may have at the North American Commercial Vehicle Show Sept. 25-28.
