FedEx is in more than 92% of U.S. Walgreens stores, 10 months after the companies announced a push to expand consumer access to package pickup and drop off services.

It’s one of FedEx’s strategies for coping with another record holiday shipping season, in which the Memphis-based company expects to handle 380-400 million shipments between Black Friday and Christmas Eve.

FedEx ranks No. 2 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest North American for-hire carriers.

FedEx OnSite, which can also be found in select Kroger and Albertson’s grocery stores, is now available in more than 7,500 Walgreens stores in all 50 states, the companies said Nov. 6.

The expansion has put a FedEx location where packages can be held within nine minutes of 80% of the U.S. population, said Raj Subramaniam, executive vice president, chief marketing and communications officer.

“We are thrilled to have reached this significant milestone for our customers ahead of the holiday season, and we look forward to continuing to work with Walgreens to offer convenient and secure pickup and drop-off services around the country,” Subramaniam said in a news release.

“As online shopping grows, our customers are searching for flexible options, and we stand ready to deliver,” he added.

Walgreens has about 8,100 stores in the U.S., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The number is expected to grow after regulatory approval of Walgreens’ bid to purchase more than 1,900 stores from rival Rite Aid.

Customers can have packages held for up to five business days at FedEx OnSite pickup and delivery locations. The FedEx Delivery Manager allows customers to redirect packages to FedEx OnSite locations and more than 1,800 FedEx Office locations.
