Saia Continues Rapid Expansion With New Terminal in St. Louis Market
Saia Inc. opened a new terminal in St. Peters, Mo., about 35 miles west of St. Louis, the less-than-truckload carrier’s latest in a wave of expansion across the Midwest, Mid-Atlantic and Northeast in 2017.
The stand-alone terminal sits on 26 acres and features an 100-door dock, a maintenance shop and wash bay, and a fueling station.
The latest location will be four times larger than the previous location Saia operated in the St. Louis market, the company wrote in a statement.
“It’s a substantial investment in the community, and its completion will allow us to meet the growing demands of shippers in St. Peters and the surrounding St. Louis market for years to come,” Chief Customer Officer Ray Ramu said. “The terminal really is a model facility for Saia as we continue to improve and expand our network nationwide.”
In September, John Creek, Ga.-based Saia announced it would open a location in Laurel, Md., which is about halfway between Washington, D.C., and Baltimore, a terminal that also will serve Delaware. Earlier this year, Saia began offering direct service to the greater New York City and Long Island markets.
Saia ranks No. 28 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest for-hire carriers in North America. The company has been rapidly expanding its footprint into the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic through a corporate vision announced last year, including opening terminals in Pennsylvania this year.
