WyoTech, Mack Trucks Academy and Volvo Trucks Academy are expanding their 5-year-old diesel technician training program with Dealer Connect, an education program designed to recruit qualified graduates to work as technicians in dealerships nationwide.

Laramie, Wyo.-based WyoTech pledged $1 million annually for scholarships for Dealer Connect students who demonstrate financial need. It also has committed to providing half the scholarships to retired military personnel.

WyoTech will recruit and train the students, and assist in the placement of graduates with Mack and Volvo dealerships. WyoTech provides mechanical and technical training at its campuses in Blairsville, Pa., Daytona Beach, Fla., and Laramie.

“We created Dealer Connect with WyoTech to help our dealer network address the severe shortage of skilled talent qualified to work in the highly technical field of diesel technology and improve the rate of technician success,” Dave Winner, Volvo Group’s senior vice president of distribution development, said in a release.

The three partners began the training collaboration in 2012. Since then, more than 90% of the 300 program graduates have found in-field employment. The training lasts for about nine months.
