DB Schenker to Carry Out Range Energy Trailer Testing in H2

DB Schenker will carry out a pilot program testing Range Energy’s electrified dry van trailers in the second half of 2024, the startup said.
DB Schenker (North America) ranks No. 25 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest logistics companies in North America, No. 13 on TT’s list of the top dry storage warehousing firms and is the No. 3 largest airfreight forwarder. The company operates 23.7 million square feet of dry storage warehouse space and 91 facilities.
Range’s trailers are intended to reduce diesel consumption through an e-axle, battery pack and smart kingpin.
A road map for the pilot program will assess suitable routes, payload considerations, technical support, data sharing and charging operations ahead of the testing, Mountain View, Calif.-based Range said.

Range carried out two pilot programs with carriers in 2023. A total of six trials are expected to take place in 2024, Range CEO Ali Javidan told Transport Topics in January, adding that the trials last one to two weeks.
The beta version of the trailers is scheduled to launch in May, Javidan told TT on the sidelines of the annual CES conference. Range manufactures the trailers in Mountain View. In 2025, Range will begin a move from beta trailers to “release candidate” trailers, Javidan told TT. At the end of 2025 or the start of 2026, small series production will begin, the executive said.
In February, Range raised $23.5 million in new financing to support its pilot testing and the launch of production.
