J.B. Hunt’s First-Quarter Income Jumps
J.B. Hunt Transport Services’ first-quarter income jumped to $91.9 million, or 78 cents per share, from $68.7 million, or 58 cents, a year ago.
Revenue rose 2% to $1.44 billion, the Lowell, Arkansas-based truckload carrier and intermodal firm reported April 14.
Intermodal segment operating income rose 12% to $104.3 million, while revenue gained 1% to $844 million, on 6% higher volume.
Truck segment operating income jumped almost 250% to $8.5 million, while revenue slipped 1% to $91 million. J.B. Hunt cited rapidly declining fuel prices and lower maintenance costs as reasons for the improvement.
The dedicated contract services segment’s operating income more than doubled, jumping 130% to $35.8 million, while revenue rose 7% to $345 million.
The integrated capacity solutions brokerage unit’s operating income rose 8% to $6.6 million with flat revenue at $163 million.
