TransForce Inc. is making another acquisition, but this time it is not buying a rival driver staffing agency.

Instead, the company is purchasing The CDL School, a company based in Miami that trains approximately 4,000 individuals a year to become truck drivers.

“The CDL School will be an exciting addition to our company and to our future, and a high growth service line for TransForce,” said David Broome, CEO of TransForce in Alexandria, Va., in a statement Jan. 21. “We will now be able to offer a full life cycle for the driver from education to employment, to safety and compliance, and returning to education for continued training throughout their career.”

Broome said the business will operate as The CDL Schools and will be led by its existing management team.

Established in 1963, The CDL School provides a variety of training programs, ranging in length from a few hours to pass an exam to several weeks to obtain a certificate or diploma. The company operates at four locations in Florida and one in Albany, N.Y. In 2012, the company helped to create Troops Into Transportation, a program to help military personnel transition to jobs in trucking, and provides training at military bases in Texas, Oklahoma and Georgia.

In a statement, Albert Hanley III, president and CEO of The CDL School, said he is honored to offer vocational education and employment opportunities to veterans. “It is rewarding to find a solution that provides an answer for the ever-present truck driver shortage with the employment needs for service members and veterans,” he said.

Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

TransForce has made 12 acquisitions since 2013, including two in the past month. The company purchased Drive360 Logistics on Jan. 7 and Hire Edge Logistics Personnel on Dec. 18.

Drive360 Logistics, based in Windermere, Fla., is a transportation recruitment firm that targets truck drivers and diesel mechanics in the United States and Canada. It also offers job placement for trailer mechanics, tire mechanics, road service technicians, warehouse management, service writers, sales representatives, parts managers, parts counter personnel, store managers and logistics administrators.

Hire Edge Logistics Personnel, based in Edison, N.J., is a regional staffing agency that supplies truck drivers and logistics personnel to companies operating in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions.

In April 2018, TransForce acquired SafetyServe, a software company and a provider of online safety training courses to companies, government agencies, insurance companies and other organizations. The company, based in Bloomfield Hills, Mich., continues to operate with its prior management team.
